The cooling rates that accompany manufacture of gas turbine superalloy powders are sufficient to produce metastable structures and phase distributions. It is the aim of this investigation and report to develop some understanding of the relationships between powder manufacturing processes and powder structures by comparison of material made by two methods, and to describe some unusual experiments done to demonstrate structure solidification relationships.
