This paper gives an example of a potential waste management centre construction in the Osijek-Baranja County. First, the existing situation regarding waste management was established (quantity and composition). Today, waste is disposed on 9 ‘official’ landfills and a series of ‘unofficial’ ones. Considering the unsustainable nature of the present condition, which is contrary to the applicable Croatian regulations, efforts have been made to develop a solution with the aim of building a single waste management centre. The projections regarding mobility, generation, collection and disposal of waste for a period of 30 years are provided. A total area of approximately 30 ha is required for the construction of the new waste management centre, with the possible extension to a further 20 ha, and will include a facility for mechanical-biological treatment, non-hazardous and inert waste landfill, recycling yard, construction waste treatment area, ancillary facilities, infrastructure, and mobile and stable equipment. It should be noted that the system includes 5 transfer stations.
