Abstract

En este estudio se analizaron los macerales y análisis próximos de los carbones de la formación Cuervos perteneciente a la mina La Lomita ubicada en la vereda de San Luís de Chucarima del Municipio de Chitagá (Norte de Santander), la cual está localizada en la cuenca del Catatumbo. Inicialmente, se analizaron las muestras para determinar su poder calorífico, contenido de humedad, cenizas, carbono fijo, azufre y propiedades coquizables. Dando como resultado una muy buena calidad del carbón principalmente por los bajos contenidos de azufre (0.59% en base seca según la normal ASTM D4239-14), con índice de hinchamiento libre de 5.0 secado al aire según la norma ASTM-720M15, lo que le da un fuerte carácter aglomerante haciéndolo un carbón coquizable. Además, a partir del análisis petrográfico, inicialmente se realizó un resumen de las nomenclaturas y características visuales de todos los macerales y después fue posible analizar las muestras obtenidas en el sector. En el cuál, se observó un predominio de la vitrinita haciendo este un carbón vítrico altamente compuesto por kerógeno tipo III presente en cuatro mantos de aproximadamente 30cm de espesor en la zona de estudio.
