Anacronismo, vida y futuridad en Zama

Abstract

La novela de Antonio di Benedetto Zama (1956) ha sido catalogada como una novela de la espera: Diego de Zama espera la llegada de un barco con noticias de su familia, espera su traslado como funcionario de la Corona a una sede más prestigiosa, y espera recibir el sueldo que le adeudan. El 2017 Lucrecia Martel estrenó una adaptación de la novela bajo el mismo título. Tanto di Benedetto como Martel miran al pasado para construir sus ficciones que dan cuenta del fracaso de la empresa civilizatoria. En este artículo quiero centrarme en los aspectos materiales y en los modos en que tanto la novela como la película visibilizan, desde su singularidad, este fracaso del proyecto iluminista, que supone enfocarse en la vida de figuras marginales al proyecto moderno como lo son indígenas, mujeres, niños, animales y territorio. Aunque estas figuras no son protagónicas en el relato novelesco ni en el cinematográfico, generan un contrapunto y un límite que permite cuestionar la legitimidad del proyecto civilizador ilustrado.
