The January 1979 Statement by the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Nutrition on fluoride supplementation included a revised dosage schedule and carried a footnote stating that commercial infant formulas would not be manufactured with fluoridated water by the time of publication of the statement (Pediatrics 63:150, 1979). Recent Letters to the Editor1,2 suggest that pediatricians may not yet be fully aware of the new recommendations on fluoride supplements and on the current status of fluoride levels in infant formulas.
