Hypoglycemia and Leukemia

Abstract

I read with interest the report1 by Drs. Jaffe and Kim regarding hypoglycemia in a child with acute myelogenous leukemia. I should like to call to your attention our reports2,3 describing reduced liver-glucose-6-phosphatase in children with leukemia. At the time of our reports relatively little information regarding hypoglycemia associated with leukemia had been reported and since that time the literature has added a few pertinent articles. I should like to point out that elevations in lactic acid, uric acid, plasma lipids and reductions in liver glycose-6-phosphatase have been reported in both leukemia and glycogen storage disease.
