
La desnutrición crónica es la consecuencia más directa de la pobreza extrema y no extrema en los niños, éstos por su naturaleza son, normalmente, dependientes de sus progenitores. Consecuentemente, su pobreza es derivada de la que afecta a sus padres, quienes se encuentran insertados, en el mejor de los casos, débil y precariamente al mercado laboral. Frente a esta situación, centralmente el Estado y en mucho menor medida la sociedad civil orientan recursos, que se plasman en una amplia gama de programas alimentarios, para contribuir a mejorar la alimentación de los niños con la esperanza de lograr su nutrición adecuada.
