Abstract

Im deutschen Sprachraum ist Augustinus' 'De civitate dei' bislang selten prazise interpretiert worden, und dies, obwohl es sich um ein Schlusselwerk der antiken wie der mittelalterlichen Ethik, der Staats- und der Geschichtsphilosophie handelt. Sein Einfluss ist so erheblich, dass man das Staatsdenken des Mittelalters als Politischen Augustinismus bezeichnen konnte. Im Mittelpunkt des Werks steht die Unterscheidung zweier ethischer Grundorientierungen, die u. a. zu einer pointierten Zwei-Reiche-Lehre und zu einer markanten Geschichtsinterpretation ausformuliert werden. Der vorliegende Band, der Beitrage von Fachleuten aus dem In- und Ausland vereinigt, will eine detaillierte argument- wie quellenbezogene Analyse des grossen und schwierigen Werkes (wie Augustinus selbst sagt) bieten."
