Celdas solares orgánicas como fuente de energía sustentable

Abstract

Las celdas solares inorgánicas han mostrado un gran desarrollo, sin embargo el alto costo de producción ha imposibilitado su amplio uso. Por otro lado, el empleo de materiales orgánicos en la fabricación de celdas es una alternativa actualmente considerada por diversos grupos de investigación a nivel mundial. Los retos principales para las celdas orgánicas son el incremento de la eficiencia de conversión de energía solar en eléctrica, la reducción en sus costos de fabricación y el alcanzar un mayor tiempo de vida. Para lograr estos factores los grupos de investigación trabajan de forma interdisciplinaria sintetizando/modificando nuevos materiales orgánicos y desarrollando nuevas configuraciones. Las fuentes principales de energía en los siglos anteriores fueron mayormente no renovables mientras que las celdas solares orgánicas son fuentes de energía renovables. En este artículo se presenta una introducción general en este campo de investigación señalando las contribuciones realizadas por el grupo de Propiedades Ópticas de la Materia del Centro de Investigaciones en Óptica.
