Abstract

Was ist jüdisch? Die Frage nach kulturellen Zuordnungen und religiösen Traditionen wird in der Popkultur oft auf überraschende und spielerische Weise beantwortet. Auch das Judentum erscheint in der Popkultur des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts nicht als etwas Festes, sondern als wandelbare Figur in einem immer neu zu inszenierenden Spiel. Caspar Battegays Essay geht diesem Spiel mit Figuren des Jüdischen in einer Auswahl ganz unterschiedlicher Filme, TV-Serien, Songs und Texte nach. Dabei wird nicht nur ein neuer Forschungsbereich für die Jüdischen Studien in Deutschland erschlossen - auch die Theorie der Popkultur wird um die bislang vernachlässigte Dimension des Jüdischen bereichert.
