Abstract

Die Vielfalt soziologischer Zugriffe auf die moderne Gesellschaft lässt sich in die drei Stränge der ungleichheits-, der differenzierungs- und der kulturtheoretischen Denktradition bündeln. Alle drei Stränge setzen sich aus einer Pluralität von Perspektiven zusammen, und es gibt vielfältige Verbindungen zwischen ihnen - bis hin zu Versuchen, zwei oder sogar drei Stränge in theoretischen Synthesen zusammenzuführen. Dieses Bild, das die soziologische Gesellschaftstheorie seit den Klassikern bis heute bietet, wird in der Einführung systematisch dargestellt und kommentiert. Ein besonderer Akzent wird dabei darauf gelegt, wie die verschiedenen Perspektiven zum Verständnis heutiger gesellschaftlicher Problemlagen beitragen und welche zeitdiagnostischen Horizonte sie eröffnen.
