Abstract

Tout d'abord l'auteur decrit les incidents et les causes qui menaient a la naissance de Open Archives Initiative. Puis elle presente l'historique et la structure organisatrice de OAI. A l'aide des personnes interessees et des applicateurs de la version alpha, qui contribuaient avec leurs idees et discussions a perfectionner le protocole, il etait possible de presenter en janvier 2001 la premiere version officielle du protocole OAI. Les deux colloques suivants aux Etats-Unis et en Europe visaient a presenter le protocole et a montrer plusieurs implementations exemplaires. L'auteur decrit en detail le OAI Metadata Harvesting Protocol montrant ses objectifs et ses possibilites. Elle decrit de meme les metadonnees dont on a besoin. Elle explique les commandes fondamentales d'une recherche dans les systeme de stockage d'information compatibles avec OAI, compte-tenu de la distinction entre plusieurs fonds dans le systeme de stockage. Finalement l'auteur discute les perspectives de OAI dans la phase experimentale de sa premiere version et de meme dans le cadre du developpement actuel dans le domaine des publications scientifiques.
