MRC Annotated DMP Template

Abstract

This is an annotated data management plan (DMP) template for Medical Research Council (MRC) grant application data management plans. This document (available in .pdf and .docx formats) was created using the DMPonline tool, which provides templates for structuring major research funders' DMPs. The document includes the guidance text provided in the tool, produced by the Digital Curation Centre (DCC), the MRC and the University of Sheffield Library. All applicants submitting funding proposals (research and fellowship grants) to the MRC must include a data Management Plan as an attachment to their application on Je-S. This includes applications for the renewal of existing funding. The DMP should comply with the MRC’s policy on research data sharing and should demonstrate how the PI will meet, or already meets, their responsibilities for research data quality, sharing and security. It should refer to any institutional and study data policies, systems and procedures and be regularly reviewed throughout the research cycle. It is advisable that all DMPs use the template to ensure consistency and make it easier to review (this is built into the DMPonline tool). For longitudinal studies, involving a series of data collections, the plan should be up to four A4 pages in length. For all other research, the plan should be no longer than three A4 pages. For further information see the MRC policies and guidance accessible from the Data Sharing webpage, particularly Data Management Plans - Guidance for applicant, Data Management Plans - FAQs and guidance and the DMP Template. The DCC also provides guidance on Data management Plans and How to Develop a Data Management and Sharing Plan.
