Abstract

Ikili iliskilerin kuruldugu XVI. yuzyilin sonlarindan 1876 Berlin Antlasmasi’na kadar Osmanli Devleti ile genelde ekonomik cikarlari acisindan dostane iliskiler surduren ve Osmanli toprak butunlugunun korunmasindan yana olan Ingiltere, bu tarihten sonra keskin bir politika degisikligine giderek Osmanli topraklarinin parcalanmasi ve paylasilmasi konusunda hem fikir olan guclerin safina katilmis, hatta bu guclerin en onde gelenlerinden biri olmustur. Fransa’nin Katolikligi, Ruslarin ise Ortodokslugu kullanarak, Osmanli cografyasinda kendilerine nufuz alanlari olusturmalarindan ilham alan Ingiltere, yuzyilin ilk ceyreginden itibaren Osmanli cografyasinda siyasal, ekonomik ve kulturel alanlarda nufuz edebilecegi alanlar aramis, bu nedenle Nesturiler, Suryaniler, Keldaniler, Durziler, Ermeniler ve Bulgarlar gibi cesitli Hristiyan gruplar arasinda Protestan misyonerlik faaliyetlerini baslatmistir. Osmanli gayrimuslimleri arasinda once Protestan bir cemaat olusturulmus, daha sonra bu cemaatin hamiligi ustlenerek Osmanli yonetimine baski unsuru olarak kullanilmistir. Ozellikle egitim alaninda okullar ile yapilan misyonerlik faaliyetlerinde ileride Osmanli Devleti’ne karsi isyan edecek kitlelerin lider kadrosu yetistirilirken, tibbi alanda yapilan misyonerlik faaliyetleriyle de azinlik tebaanin sempatisi kazanilmak istenmis, siyasal, ekonomik ve kulturel amacli calismalar, misyonerlik marifetiyle dini calismalar gibi gosterilerek kamufle edilmistir. Ingiltere’nin misyonerlik faaliyetlerini gerceklestirdigi cografi alan ile I. Dunya Savasi sonrasinda isgal ettigi bolgelerin buyuk bir benzerlik tasimasi, kamuflaji dusurup gercek niyetleri gozler onune sermistir.
