Mehir; evlilik akdiyle koca tarafından kadlıla mutlak surette verilmesi gereken "nakit para, eşya., mat ya da menfaat" türü bir bedeldir. Bu bedelin karşılığının "kadınııı cinselliğinden yararlanma" düşüncesi toplumsal yaşamla örfüşmemektedir. Mehir, kadınlar için daha çok sosyal ve ekonomik bir güvence niteliği taşımaktadır. Mehir ise being given definetly by husband by the arrengement of marriage as a cash money, things, property or a kind of value of benefit.
