Türkiye’nin yenilenebilir enerji potansiyelinin hesaplanması

Türkiye’nin yenilenebilir enerji potansiyelinin hesaplanması

Abstract

Contemporary global environmental problems affect not only human beings but also humanity as a whole and put a threat on the continuation of human race on earth. Global warming, as a result of the fossil fuel usage, is the most important one of these problems. Energy production from renewable resources is the key point to solve this problem. Starting with Europe many countries in the world enhance their renewable energy applications. Energy needs of humanity can be fulfilled with renewable energy applications without any environmental risks and in accordance with the harmony of nature. New and creative technologies made renewable energy productions ecenomically competitive with fosil fuel productions. Moreover renewable energy applications provide local businesses and income for local people. In this study, Turkey’s renewable energy potential is calculated for every renewable energy resource separately according to MacKay’s method in order to determine whether Turkey can supply its all energy needs from its own renewable energy resources. Calculations show that Turkey’s renewable energy potential is 4307 TWh. Considering Turkey’s primary energy consumption is about 80 billion toe (ETKB, 2014),which is more or less equivalent to 930 TWh of electric energy, Turkey can produce five times more energy than it consumes from reneweables . So there is no need for nuclear plants nor coal mining which costs many lives. Another result is that, Turkey has four times more wind power potential than its hydro power potential. Also the solar power potential fivefolds the hydro power potential. This shows Turkey is in a very wrong path of building dams and hydro power plants that destroys river ecologies and human societies. Turkey should focus on its wind and solar energy sources and set the rivers flow free. Turkey can build a sustainable energy system with wind and solar power.
