Abstract

Alcuni grandi protagonisti della stagione dell’Osservanza, che sono stati nel contempo anche gli esponenti più significativi e originali della produzione sermonistica quattrocentesca, hanno avuto un rapporto forte, personale e continuo con la scrittura, quasi fosse una pratica spontanea e nel contempo necessaria: insomma i santi della predicazione, dunque della parola detta, diventano anche santi della parola scritta, dal pulpito la parola passa al libro e dal libro al pulpito, in una sorta di moto perpetuo i cui protagonisti rimangono sempre i medesimi. All’interno di questa interazione spicca in particolare l’autografia di Bernardino da Siena, di Giacomo della Marca, di Pietro da Mogliano (strettamente legati fra di loro, come maglie di una robusta catena), di Caterina Vigri e infine di Battista da Varano: personaggi appartenenti tutti a quell’Osservanza dell’Italia mediana così attiva e connotata.
