Key messages from this policy brief: 1. Gender equality legislation exists in South Africa, although implementation is not enforced. 2. Enforcement is encumbered by lack of an overarching enforcing legislation. The signing of the Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Bill must be fast-tracked, and an enforcement legislation framework introduced. 3. Policy actions to stimulate public discourses around approval and adoption of the overarching enforcement legislation are needed.
