Uczestnictwo senatorów w obradach sejmu uznawano powszechnie za najważniejszy (obok obowiązku rezydowania u boku króla w radzie Senatu) akt ich publicznej działalności. Szczególną pilnością w uczestniczeniu w obradach sejmu odznaczała się ambitniejsza część szlachty, świeżo awansującej do Senatu. I to mimo iż koszty paromiesięcznego pobytu w Warszawie były niemałe. Do grupy tych najbardziej zaangażowanych w działalność publiczną senatorów należał Stanisław Kazimierz Bieniewski, który - jako jeden z nielicznych - pozostawił szczegółowe informacje o jednej ze swych wypraw na sejm.
