Abstract

La cuestión del papel de lo sagrado en la filosofía cínica ha generado entre los estudiosos del tema actitudes y posiciones muy variadas y difícilmente reconciliables entre sí. El cínico puede ser tomado tanto como un defensor de la necesidad de generar una sociedad desvinculada de la religión como un peculiar tipo de hombre sagrado que entiende su tarea como un encargo divino. En este capítulo, a través de la exposición de las posturas sobre el tema de algunos de los cínicos del primer periodo del movimiento (Antístenes, Diógenes de Sínope, Crates de Atenas) y algunos de sus representantes finales (Peregrino Proteo, Luciano, Juliano, Heraclio) se ha llevado a cabo una minuciosa exploración de las ramificaciones de la cuestión a lo largo del recorrido histórico de la corriente cínica de pensamiento. De este modo, este capítulo contribuye de manera decisiva a esclarecer en qué medida puede considerarse que hay elementos comunes entre las diversas visiones de lo sagrado de los representantes principales del cinismo filosófico y, sobre todo, de qué manera puede entenderse la supuesta sacralidad del hombre sagrado cínico en su relación con su auditorio, su momento histórico y su sociedad.
