Abstract

El propósito de este estudio es el de examinar el proceso que se abrió contra tres mujeres: María González, María Bautista y María de Cárdenas, por parte del Tribunal de la Inquisición de Toledo, que ocupó cientos de folios y que se prolongó de 1645 a 1647. En este artículo deseamos poner el foco de atención en esta causa para analizar, a partir de un hecho luctuoso como la muerte de un niño, cómo se articuló un mecanismo social mediante el cual se fue acorralando a unas mujeres que vivieron sin estar sometidas a una autoridad masculina; algo que hizo recaer sobre ellas toda sospecha de culpa, evidenciando la discriminación, el rechazo y los prejuicios existentes contra ellas en la Castilla de mediados del siglo xvii. Intentaremos extraer conclusiones apoyándonos en la riqueza indiscutible del relato inquisitorial para que así el lector tenga su propia opinión sobre el tema.
