El presente articulo analiza la obra de Gilberto Freire, Casa-grande & senzala (1933), explicando el porqué de la recepción que esta obra tuvo en un amplio publico. Para lograr este objetivo los autores recurren al análisis del contexto y de la situación en la que se desenvolvió Freire al momento de escribir la obra para explicar su singularidad. El artículo busca ahondar en el pensamiento de Freire, observando la posición de este en torno a la contribución de la mezcla racial y cultural en la conformación de una sociedad mestiza en Brasil.
