Luta, messianismo e utopia

Abstract

O presente texto se centra na história da luta por terra no Brasil buscando demonstrar a indissociabilidade entre as lutas concretas que se efetivaram na formação social brasileira e certo messianismo que ajudou a consubstanciar esses enfrentamentos. Nesse intento, perpassamos pela atuação da Igreja Católica na (re)construção de utopias que guiam as lutas pela reforma agrária brasileira ao menos desde o início da segunda metade do século XX; trazemos apontamentos sobre a criação da Comissão Pastoral da Terra e seu papel na construção de uma utopia do campo e do campesinato brasileiro, e a partir de um resgate histórico da Guerra do Contestado e da Ocupação Caldeirão de Santa Cruz do Deserto, atestamos que o componente utópico-messiânico foi decisivo na luta pela terra no Brasil mesmo quando formalmente a Igreja manteve-se alhures ou avessa a essas lutas.
