Punching shear design criteria of corner slab-column connections in ACI 318-11 are controversial. This paper presents some of the relevant issues using design examples. Two approximately full-scaled corner slab-column subassemblages were tested under combined gravity load and lateral displacement reversals. Each specimen consists of a 120 × 120 × 8 in. (3048 × 3048 × 203 mm) slab and an approximately 140 in. (3556 mm) high column with a 16 in. (406 mm) square cross section. A total of 36 experimental results are collected to evaluate design criteria of corner slabcolumn connections in ACI 318-11. Experimental results showed that both punching shear strength and deformation capacities in ACI 318-11 should be reduced for corner slab-column connections.
