Therapeutics Letter 14 discusses menopausal hormone therapy. Education, support and non-drug therapies are essential for all menopausal women. Short-term hormone therapy has a useful role in selected women with established symptoms or disease. Until randomized trials are completed, long-term therapy decisions have to be made in the face of uncertainty balancing the potential benefits and risks in individual patients. The final decision must be guided by the individual woman’s choice.
