Slope stability analysis

Abstract

"Slides may occur in almost every conceivable manner, slowly and suddenly, and with or without any apparent provocation." This quote from Terzaghi and Peck (1967, p.729) emphasises the unpredictability of slope failure, which in turn highlights the need for accuracy in predicting how slope failure will occur. In this thesis, the issue of how best to attain analyse these slope will be examined. With the development of computer software, the accuracy of the results that is capable of being achieved has been greatly improved. However, the problem of which software attains the most exact results needs to be addressed. The results of this study show the capabilities and limitations of different slope stability software and methods of analysis.
