Currently, because many patients may be on fad diets to lose weight,9'11 the dentist must make use of his or her nutritional knowledge.12'13 When the dentist sees an unusual pattern of ero sion, he or she should not only restore the teeth requiring treatment, but should also attempt to find the cause of the erosion. Often erosion can progress asymptomatically for many years. If the cause is not discovered and cor rected early, much damage can be done to the patient’s dentition.14,15
