Coronal pulp amputation and applica tion of formocresol for three to five days was used in the treatment of 324 decidu ous molars with carious exposures. Roentgenographic and clinical evaluations were carried out over four years; treat ment was successful in more than 90 per cent of the molars treated by use of the formocresol-pulpotomy technic. Formocresol pulpotomy results in a vi able , pulp. Consequently, the procedure properly may be considered a vital rather than a nonvital technic. This technic is the method of choice for carious expo sures in deciduous teeth.
