Abstract

La realidad virtual es un conjunto de técnicas informáticas que permiten crear imágenes y entornos simulados en los que el sujeto tiene diverso nivel de interacción, mientras que la realidad aumentada puede definirse como una técnica que permite incluir componentes digitales en el mundo físico. Ambas tecnologías aparecen en numerosas obras literarias, películas y series televisivas donde también se han reflejado sus aplicaciones en ciencias de la salud. El objetivo de este trabajo es mostrar la presencia de los usos médicos de la realidad virtual y la realidad aumentada en la literatura, el cine y la televisión. Estas tecnologías han aparecido en muchos títulos, con frecuencia adelantándose al desarrollo científico y tecnológico. En ocasiones se trata de historias de ciencia ficción donde se habla de estos avances de manera fantasiosa o poco creíble; o en una trama cómica, pero en otros ejemplos se ha adecuado a la realidad. Además de mostrar una finalidad lúdica, también se han reflejado sus aplicaciones en el ámbito médico, tanto para la docencia, la mejora de entornos, el diagnóstico y el tratamiento de diversos cuadros patológicos como enfermedades neurológicas o fobias.
