Abstract

ιΛ ιΓ) «Il tuo Cristo e ebreo, la tua macchina e giapponese, la tua demo crazia e greca, il tuo caffe brasiliano, la tua vacanza turca, i tuoi nume ri arabi, il tuo alfabeto latino. Solo il tuo vicino e uno straniero». Que sta frase, contenuta in un manifesto attaccato sui muri di Berlino nel 1994, e ricordata in un agile testo-intervista di Zygmunt Bauman, illu stre patriarca della sociologia contemporanea1. Negli ultimi anni, in una serie di libri di grande successo2, Bauman si e dedicato a spiegare l'emergere impetuoso nel nostro tempo della dimensione identitaria, ma questo breve testo ha il pregio di proporre piu direttamente, e for se anche piu chiaramente, un'interpretazione generale di una questio ne, l'identita, oggi ineluttabilmente in primo piano. La prima risposta che offre Bauman, commentando il succitato manifesto, e che l'identita e oggi problematica a causa degli effetti di sgregatori della globalizzazione. Sono le potenti forze della globaliz zazione, secondo Bauman, a modificare improvvisamente i paesaggi sociali che ci erano familiari, a intaccare i nostri sensi di sicurezza, a ri mescolare gli individui smembrando le loro identita sociali. La que stione identitaria sarebbe percio in sostanza figlia di un tempo di straordinaria incertezza: «In tutte le epoche il futuro e stato incerto, ma la sua capricciosita e volatilita non e mai stata avvertita con tanta intensita come oggi, nel mondo della modernita liquida del lavoro
