La renovación de la historia agraria española

Abstract

La agricultura española ha gozado de mala prensa. Desde la época del regeneracionismo de Joaquín Costa hasta recientes historiadores de la economía, la interpretación dominante ha sido la de atribuir al sector agrario un peso decisivo en la explicación del atraso económico de la España contemporánea. En este articulo se discute esta visión canónica de la agricultura española, apuntando las diferentes vías de renovación de la historiografía sobre la misma. La renovación ha sido producto de una nueva generación de historiadores agrarios que han examinado las grandes líneas de la agricultura española en perspectiva comparada y, sobre todo, que han cambiado el enfoque y las áreas de investigación. Los resultados son evidentes. Se ha abandonado el estudio de la estructura de la propiedad a favor de la gestión de las explotaciones. La conflictividad social se examina a la luz de las «armas del débil » y el componente ecológico se enfrenta a la visión productivista que antes dominaba.
