Abstract

; Recent research confirms the role of water in shaping Parma’s urban landscape. Specifically, urban canals played a significant role in relation to geomorphology and the definition of the ancient city’s regulatory plan. Unpublished data from recent excavations and archive maps allow for a new reconstruction of the city and its territory, connecting waterways, urban grids and agrarian divisions. In this context, a previously unpublished document traces the course of the city’s canals at the beginning of the 19th century. Its study and digitalisation have enabled an integrated reading of the data across the settlement phases, identifying traces of the urban canals that have since been erased and are useful for reconstructing the ancient landscape.
