Abstract

Il saggio discute il secondo canto del "Purgatorio" di Dante, focalizzando l’attenzione sui due testi ivi cantati. Dopo aver sottolineato il clima di incertezza che domina la narrazione dell’ingresso nel secondo regno, si mostra come il valore del percorso purgatoriale si delinei con una riflessione sui due canti ivi sentiti, quello sacro ("In exitu Israel de Aegypto", il salmo 113) e quello profano ("Amor che ne la mente mi ragiona"). L’uno (il canto sull’Esodo) è allegoria del rinnovamento che avviene per queste anime, che, liberate dalla schiavitù terrena e dal peccato, transitano verso la beatitudine finale. L’altro, canto filosofico del "Convivio", è reminiscenza di un’epoca e un amore da accantonare, e viene infatti rifiutato dal guardiano Catone. Il confronto di questi canti si rivela essenziale per l’intelligenza dell’intero poema.
