Abstract

Il presente saggio si propone di esporre sinteticamente alcuni dei principali aspetti dell’urbanistica italiana negli anni del Fascismo attraverso la particolare accezione “antiurbana” imposta dal Regime. La prima parte (Non-Town), analizza le origini dell’antiurbanesimo, il pensiero di Benito Mussolini ma anche del fratello Arnaldo e le teorie antiurbane esposte nel 1° Congresso di urbanistica del 1937 e nella Legge Urbanistica del 1942. La seconda parte (New-Town) analizza le “città nuove” del fascismo nei “due tempi” delle realizzazioni nell’Agro Pontino e nel particolare fenomeno della Capitanata con il borgo di Segezia. Un approfondimento è qui dedicato al rapporto di Le Corbusier con le “città nuove” italiane. Nella parte terza (Town), vengono infine esaminate teorie e prassi degli interventi sulla città consolidata a partire dal pensiero di Marcello Piacentini e Gustavo Giovannoni. Nell’intenso panorama di demolizioni e ricostruzioni particolare attenzione è posta al caso di Brescia, episodio altamente esplicativo del ruolo dell’urbanistica nel rapporto tra interessi economici e necessità politiche. Un’ultima riflessione è riservata al “carattere urbano”, che risulta a tutt’oggi la maggiore eredità trasmessa alle città italiane dal periodo fra le due guerre.
