Abstract

Il saggio analizza, attraverso documenti editi e inediti, l’incontro di Gordon Craig con le tradizioni d’attore del teatro italiano, del passato e a lui contemporanee, e l’influenza che ebbero sulla riflessione teorica di Craig sul Teatro del futuro, sull’Attore, sulla Über-marionette: da un lato, la tradizione del grande attore (e in particolare la figura di Tommaso Salvini), dall’altro, i generi popolari e dialettali (dal teatro siciliano di Giovanni Grasso al Teatro di Varietà di Ettore Petrolini), passando dal paradosso incarnato da Eleonora Duse. In particolare, la seconda parte del saggio si sofferma sull’analisi del quaderno manoscritto, conservato nel Fonds Edward Gordon Craig della Bibliothèque Nationale de France, dal titolo Petrolini. Some notes by EG.C., scritto da Craig fra il 1913 e il 1940.
