Gino Germani e Talcott Parsons : storia di una relazione

Abstract

La produzione sociologica di Gino Germani è stata spesso considerata come fortemente debitrice dello strutturalfunzionalismo di Talcott Parsons. Con quest’autore egli ha effettivamente intrattenuto una relazione culturalmente profonda. Ma un’analisi attenta dei suoi studi sulla modernizzazione e sui problemi legati allo sviluppo economicosociale, dimostra quanto ancora più forte e decisivo sia stato il rapporto che Germani ha intrattenuto, dagli anni della sua prima formazione sino alla maturità, con l’eredità scientifico-intellettuale della Scuola di Francoforte o con l’opera di Émile Durkheim. Ciò è confermato dal fatto che se Parsons aveva un’immagine trionfante della modernità, Germani ne è stato piuttosto un analista critico e disincantato, mosso da una visione tragica e pessimistica circa il futuro della democrazia.
