Valdesi, Ebrei e Neofiti in Calabria nel XVI secolo

Abstract

Il saggio indaga la storia delle comunità valdesi ed ebraiche che vissero a lungo nella provincia di Cosenza, fino al XVI secolo, epoca che si aprì con l'espulsione degli Ebrei nel 1510 e proseguì con le crescenti pressioni inquisitorie su valdesi e neofiti nel clima della Controriforma. La convivenza delle comunità dei valdesi con gli ebrei e con i neofiti, dopo la definitiva espulsione degli Ebrei nel 1541, mette in luce analogie nelle attività economiche da essi esercitate e la condivisione di strategie per resistere alla persecuzione operata dalla Chiesa della Controriforma. Il quadro che emerge è correlato anche agli scambi che nella medesima epoca ci furono tra ebrei, neofiti e gruppi riformati, che attestano un dialogo tra più comunità e l'espressione della coscienza in cerca di uno spazio di autonomia di fronte all'autorità della Chiesa.
