Qualche appunto sui Penultimi di Beppe Fenoglio

Abstract

The essay investigates the history of I penultimi (the last novel planned by Beppe Fenoglio) and tries to formulate some hypotheses about its dating. Beside studying the relation between I penultimi and an expected ‘second series’ of Racconti del Parentado, the article also tries to put this work in the wider context of Fenoglio’s literary production: many of the themes and narrative nuclei that characterize I penultimi were infact already developed in Fenoglio’s novels and tales (and particularly in La malora). The last part of this essay concentrates on the theme of the churchyard and on its connection to Thomas Gray’s Elegy.
