Beniamino Dal Fabbro traduttore di Góngora (Tres víolas del cielo)

Abstract

The paper, which draws on materials from the «Fondo Beniamino Dal Fabbro», kept by the Biblioteca Civica of Belluno, retrieves from oblivion a name never included until now among the ensemble of translators of Gongora, and brings to the attention of critics a forgotten and isolated, but important, poetic translation. The version's composition process and editorial history are reconstructed, and the translation is analysed in direct relation with Gongora's original, but also with other Italian translations of the same poem. In this accomplished version, the Baroque poet appears to be modified by Dal Fabbro in the light of his much-loved French symbolism, but also directed towards a classicist and specifically Leopardi-style tradition, in accordance with the postulates of a moderate hermeticism and with possible echos of early Montale.
