Abstract

Il nome del domenicano Gabriele Barletta è legato alla fortuna dei suoi Sermones, pubblicati per la prima volta tra il novembre 1497 e il gennaio 1498 a Brescia da Giacomo Britannico. L’editio princeps fu seguita, infatti, da un elevato numero di edizioni, italiane e straniere, che attestano un successo ampio e di lunga durata delle sue prediche. Nei sermoni del Barletta, composti in un latinus grossus, è frequente il ricorso a citazioni poetiche in volgare: gli autori più spesso citati risultano, come accade anche in altri predicatori del tempo, il Dante della Commedia e il Petrarca dei Trionfi, seguiti da Iacopone da Todi. Ma nei sermoni barlettiani è rilevabile anche la presenza di un numero significativo di citazioni dall’Acerba di Cecco d’Ascoli, che nell’articolo in questione, vengono puntualmente censite e studiate. Si segnala, inoltre, come queste citazioni vengano incrementate a partire dall’edizione bresciana del 1521, pubblicata da Ludovico Britannico e fratelli. Si osserva, infine, che nelle edizioni dei sermoni del Barletta pubblicate fuori d’Italia, in particolare in Francia e in Germania, le citazioni poetiche in volgare, compresi gli excerpta acerbiani, vengono tradotti in latino.
