Parmenide antiplatonico : riflessioni sul Parmenide di Platone

Abstract

La piu recente monografia dedicata all'influenza di Parmenide sulla filosofia V di Platone si apre con la seguente dichiarazione: «Parmenides is, after So crates, the philosopher who exercised the greatest influence on Plato's thought».1 Si tratta di un'affermazione apparentemente incontrovertibile, sia perche a Parmenide e al suo pensiero Platone ha dedicato addirittura due dia loghi (il Parmenide e il Sofista),2 sia perche numerose concezioni filosofiche pla toniche, contenute soprattutto nei cosiddetti 'dialoghi di mezzo', sembrano risentire in maniera significativa dell'influenza di Parmenide (ad esempio l'epi stemologia presentata in Resp. ν 476e6-48oai3,3 ο l'elenco dei caratteri logico ontologici del bello in se in Symp. 2ioei-2i2a7 e delle idee in Phaed. 7801-790.7). Tuttavia, se si esaminano in modo approfondito le riflessioni che Platone dedica a Parmenide, ci si rende immediatamente conto che, al di la delle di chiarazioni di ammirazione per un pensiero percepito come maestoso e au rorale, quasi mai egli manifesta un esplicito consenso per questa ο quella dot trina di Parmenide. Anzi, egli sembra prendere sistematicamente le distanze dalle posizioni di Parmenide, che vengono giudicate come ingenue (addirit tura fanciullesche) e poco fondate dal punto di vista filosofico, e per questa ragione finiscono per venire relegate nel novero dei miti (celebre l'esempio di Soph. 242C4-d6).4 A differenza di Socrate e dei Pitagorici, che Platone non si limita a lodare ma dai quali eredita alcune importanti concezioni filosofi che (sia sul piano del metodo sia su quello del contenuto), Parmenide viene spesso evocato al solo scopo di onorarne il prestigio, per poi essere in un mo do ο in un altro immancabilmente confutato.
