Photoaddressed spatial light modulators (SLMs) or light valves generally employ a longitudinal electro-optical effect, where the electro-optic voltage is controlled by a photoactive element (e.g., phototitus, Hughes liquid-crystal light valve).1 These devices provide image amplification and incoherent-to-coherent light conversion. The photoconductive and electro-optic functions can be combined in a single photorefractive material to provide a SLM (Itek Prom).
