Abstract

Abstract: This article examines the presence of radical Shiite movements in Latin America, some of them characterized by their violent actions, particularly in two geographic areas. One of those areas is the so-called triborder area of Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil; this is a presence that it is connected with two attacks in Buenos Aires, one against the Israeli embassy in 1992 and the other against the Asociacion Mutual Israelita Argentina in 1994. The second presence is in the area of the Alianza Bolivariana para las Americas, particularly among the Wayuu tribe—people who live in the zone of the Guajira along the border between Venezuela and Colombia.
