Abstract

El presente ensayo realiza una lectura de la obra Amar su propia muerte de Juan de Espinosa Medrano, intentando situarla dentro del complejo campo de la literatura colonial. Al analizar elementos claves de la comedia, como su lenguaje, el espacio de creación y recepción y la ideología de la misma, se pretende demostrar que la dinámica de apropiación y re-elaboración de cánones estéticos metropolitanos, por parte del letrado criollo, plantea problemáticas afines a la reflexión en torno a su identidad.
