Abstract

Ele viveu mais de 50 anos como poeta profissional de Literatura de Cordel e só aos 85 anos de idade, recebeu homenagem de uma universidade pelo seu trabalho: a UEFS promoveu a exposição de dezenas dos seus folhetos publicados, de julho a agosto de 1992, a qual foi inaugurada pelo Reitor Josué da Silva Mello. Naquela oportunidade, o Museu Casa do Sertão comemorava seus 14 anos de fundação. Entre os visitantes, estavam os poetas populares Joaquim Gouveia da Gama, João Crispim Ramos, Antônio Alves da Silva, Dadinho, José Crispim Ramos, o Caboquinho e Maxado Nordestino. João Ferreira da Silva foi um pernambucano que, em 1957, veio residir em Feira de Santana. Antes, esteve por Mato Grosso, Goiás, Minas Gerais e outras partes da Bahia, após sair do seu Estado, desertando da Pólícia Militar no conflito entre a Aliança Liberal e o Integralismo. Entretanto, já tinha publicado primeiro folheto: A Morte do Padre Cícero Romão Batista, em 1934.
