Inclinações amorosas de Orlando, de Virginia Woolf: um estudo sobre androginia e travestilidade

Abstract

O presente artigo analisará Orlando: uma biografia (1928), escrito por Virginia Woolf, através de conceitos como androginia e travestilidade. Percorreremos alguns dos amores de Orlando e teceremos considerações sobre as relações amorosas (consumadas ou não) da personagem central deste romance, isto é, consideraremos as aproximações de Orlando com Sasha, princesa russa, e Marmaduke Shelmerdine, viajante marítimo, segundo a chave interpretativa da androginia, especialmente considerada a partir dos estudos clássicos, sobretudo em O Banquete, de Platão. Em outro aparte, segundo a entrada do aspecto da travestilidade, consideraremos as afinidades e antipatias de Orlando com o/a arquiduque/sa Harry/Harriet, com Rosina Pepita, cigana, e com Nell, prostituta em condição de vulnerabilidade social. Para percorrermos os caminhos da androginia e travestilidade, em uma das mais famosas obras de Virginia Woolf, contaremos com o apoio crítico de tradutores e pesquisadores brasileiros que se debruçaram sobre a obra, a saber, Tomaz Tadeu, Silviano Santiago, Fabiana Assis e Carla Garcia. Em último aparte, consideraremos como a literatura, e este romance em questão, faz emergir questões que estão em âmbito antropológico, isto é, no âmbito da cultura, dos gêneros e das sexualidades.
