
Sandfly fever (SF) is a viral infection commonly emerged as outbreaks. The sandfly fever viruses (SFVs) are classified within the Phlebo virus genus of Bunyaviridae family. Virus is transmitted by the bite of an infected sandfly. SF characterized by fever,back pain, headache, photophobia, retroorbital pain, myalgia. SF epidemic has not yet been reported from Kadirli district of Kilikya region, Turkey. In this study, we aimed to to present clinical and laboratory findings of the patients diagnosed with SF in the outbreak area. We evaluated the cases of 115 patients who admitted with epidemiologic history and clinical and laboratory findings to the Internal Medicine Unit of the State Hospital of Kadirli during the outbreak periods including dates between August- november 2013. Fever, headache, back pain, myalgia, weakness, photophobia, nausea, vomiting and dizziness common symptoms. Clinically, the most common symptom was fever (96%). Thrombocyto-penia, elevated serum aspartate aminotransferase, leukopenia and alanine aminotransferase levels, elevated lactate dehydrogenase levels elevated and C-reactive protein levels were remarkable findings. All patients made a complete recovery with symptomatic treatment. Sandfly fever infection should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients who have predictive findings in site close to Mediterra- nean Sea, especially during summer seasons in which sandflies are active.
