Abstract

This article addresses the transformation of the luso-brazilian artist Carmen Miranda into one of the most celebrated gay icons in the twentieth century. It develops an analysis of the Carmen Miranda myth in its cultural dimension and its impact on the public incorporation of the character made by drag queens.
