Abstract

Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar o comportamento linguístico do artigo definido em sintagmas nominais com topônimo na Peregrinação, obra escrita no terceiro quarto do séc. XVI por Fernão Mendes Pinto. A análise se fundamentou no modelo tipológico-funcional givóniano e na sociolinguística variacionista laboviana. Foram testadas treze variáveis linguísticas, das quais apenas nove se mostraram estatisticamente relevantes nos casos de variação, na seguinte ordem decrescente: polivalência, estrutura do SN, indicador de entidade geográfica, estrutura genitiva, menção, função sintática, quantificador, tradição e coordenação. Realizou-se também um confronto com resultados relativos a sintagmas nominais com antropônimo na mesma obra e se identificaram semelhanças e diferenças.
