Abstract

ポリエチレンやポリプロピレン,一般にプラスチックが広大な需要をもつようになるとともに,染色,印刷,接着などの二次加工における困難や,静電気に基く障害などが工業的に重大な問題になってきた。これらはいずれも主として界面化学的な問題で,基本的には高分子物質の表面自由エネルギー(表面張力)の知識をもとにして解決の道を探し出すことができる。一方表面張力は液体の分子間相互作用を表わす熱力学的な物理量の一つで,凝集エネルギー密度を実測することのできない高分子では特別な重要性をもっている。さらにそのなかで高分子性(分子がつながっているという効果)を調べるなら,これは学問的にも興味がある。幸い多くの鎖状高分子は溶融することができるので,その表面張力の分子量依存性,分子構造との関係,共重合体の組成との関係などを議論することができる。2種の溶融高分子間の界面張力や溶融高分子による接触角を測定すれば,直接に高分子間の相互作用を議論することもできて,これまた科学的にも工学的にもおもしろい問題ではないか。
